Dive report for 6/25/25

Profile Pic
Visibility
A hazy 15-20 feet, 5-10 feet in the shallows (incoming tide)

Flagpole is much easier to do with scooters! We had a nice dive with cloud sponges, a decorated warbonnet, a GPO, and lots of wolfies and rockfish

Dive report for 7/15/25

Visibility
A clear 20+ feet, 5 feet in the shallows (incoming tide)

Amazing visibility on a summer dive, 25-30 feet once below 50ft depth. Several GPOs on eggs, lots of Wolfeels, tons of rockfish, ratfish feeding on clams, and 1 billion baby shrimp.

Dive report for 4/13/26

Profile Pic
Visibility
20+ feet (high tide)

Three dives on a mild exchange, the first midway on a 3.5 ft. flood. Still, both surface and bottom currents would push us north. Good vis maintained throughout the water column on the first dive, noticeably decreasing in the shallows on later dives. 48 - 53F. Four wolf eels looked up as we descended on the buoy line. Young fish have come back to the Canal for the season - numerous Tubesnout strolling by in the sargassum, a mixed-age Pile Perch school bobbing along, young Shiner Perch squirting past us. Five sunflower stars - mostly dollar-coin sized but up to teacup-saucer.

Curious to know if you had wind pushing the water north?

Could imagine interesting countercurrents and such given all the steep topography. Are there ever up or down currents?

Oddly, the wind was from the north that day, and the point blocks some of that. Second Q: I don't see Flagpole as having enough of a dropoff that it develops serious downcurrent issues on the days that I would go out there. It's only 25-35 ft from top of knuckle to adjacent seafloor.

I've gone down the wall to ~60 metres / 200ft on the outside, so there is definitely topography!
