Dive report for 6/7/25

Visibility
A grimy 10 feet, 5-10 feet in the shallows (high tide)

Not a very high tide, but it was the best for days! Vis was better than expected . No exchange when the dive started, moving towards an ebb flow as the dive progressed. Got to see and swim in a bait ball, Awesome, tons of red rock carbs, and a few dungees, a couple of Irish lords, quite a few tadpole sculpin.

Visibility
A snowy 5-10 feet, 5 feet in the shallows (high tide)

Lots of crabs, a few Irish lords. Very milky vis. Tried to hit the dive at slack, didn’t quite hit it that! Fun to see so much new kelp growing. Sent time messing with camera setting to help with the low vis. Any dive is a great dive!

Visibility
15 feet, 10-15 feet in the shallows (incoming tide)

Love equipment check dives! The water was a bit chunky, but the current at SBF, and no eddies we were able to ride the slight current back to our navigational start point at the end of the pier. Tons of nudi’s, lemons I think. Found a shaggy mouse nudi, a huge rock fish. Dive buddy spotted a red octopus! πŸ™ Loads of kelp crabs.

Visibility
A hazy 15 feet, 10-15 feet in the shallows (high tide)

Solo dive to test gear. Surprisingly clear and calm, given the recent algae bloom and current predictions. Fort Worden currents have been hard to predict, so this dive was interesting because it was the slackiest slack for the entire dive. Entered the water at 1138 at a predicted flood going into ebb. Maybe a slight flood current on entry, but the rest of the dive was very slack. Pt Wilson (0.6 mi NE) predicted slack at 1253, Marrowstone Pt prediction (1.1 mi NW) predicted slack at 1129. Point Hudson subordinate slack prediction was not available today. An intermediate, fairly flat high tide (Port Townsend) was at 1131. Not much wind. Putting it all together: Diving on a flat-ish high tide from flood to ebb, near the Marrowstone slack prediction, seems like a good bet. The Pt Wilson prediction is useless, as usual.

Oh, and hundreds of baby flatfish on the sandy bottom in 3-6 ft of water. Very fun! Schools of anchovie-like fish around the pier, look like sand lances to me.

The previous two dives here we found Capital One credit cards (different owners). What's the odds of that? No credit cards or cell phones on this dive, ha.
