The highlight here for me is two small forests of bull kelp. Kelp crabs often climb the kelp, making for interesting photography subjects. The kelp grow from almost the low tide line out to ~30fsw or so, and there are two sections, one near the north end of the park, and one closer to Colman pool (towards the point, in the middle of Lincoln Park). I have never dived the latter, but imagine it to be similar to the first. The substrate is mostly small rocks, but is usually nearly 100% covered in various kelps, which harbor sea slugs, crabs, shrimp, and other denizens. I have noted hooded nudibranchs here repeatedly. Beyond ~30fsw deep, the substrate turns sandy and begins to slope downwards a little faster, with sea pens and the occasional plumose anemone. I have not explored deeper than ~50 fsw here. Parking/entry: You enter the water just inside the park. However, the nearest parking is at Lowman beach, a 3-4 minute walk away. Therefore, there are at least two ways of doing it: 1. Drive to the edge of the park (bollards stop you from going any further). Drop your heavy gear -- tanks, weights, etc. There's a picnic table just inside the park you can put it on. Then carefully drive back out and park at Lowman beach. It's a 1-lane road, but there are driveways you can turn around in. Get the rest of your gear and walk back in, and start your dive. 2. Bring a handtruck/cart. Park at Lowman, and use the truck to lug all your stuff along the 3-4 minute walk into/out of the park. Gear up at the picnic table, and go dive. Hazards: Current. I have only dived this site a handful of times, and so can't speak to how strong the currents get, but recommend diving here around slack or on mild exchanges, as the area is not particularly protected. -- Nate C
