Dive planning for Point Richmond Minesweeper
Site Briefing
The wreck of the Point Richmond Minesweeper is about 160' of wooden-hulled debris with some structure that remains standing about 5' from the bottom. It sits pointing north in 60-70' of water. There are several tanks, pipes, machinery, ribbing, wooden timbers and other miscellaneous wreck debris still in place. It is hard to tell if the unidentified ship was really a minesweeper, but it has become an interesting artificial reef worth a visit.
Conditions: Current-sensitive, but not terribly. Slightly protected from an ebb tide and currents will simply carry you down shore where you can wade back, but avoid strong exchanges and try to remain close to the wreck if you do encounter current. There is some netting located on the wreck that should be avoided. This is also a popular fishing site.
