Reuben Tarte is a gem of a shore dive site with easy access to a beautiful shallow reef. This site is full of the life that one expects to see in current-swept sites around the San Juans including wide varieties of sponges, anemones, crab and other invertebrates, cucumbers, stars and urchins, and an impressive assortment of fish.

Enter the water in the cove at the road and swim out to the point on the right. Descend and dive the wall that drops down to 30' deep and continue to explore the cascading boulders down to about 60'.

Conditions: Occasionally the road to the water is closed to vehicles, making for a long walk in gear. Current-intensive, so plan to dive at slack. Slack adjustments for the San Juan Channel are 23 minutes later for flood and 1 hour early for ebb (using the old tables, so use this as a starting point only!).

Marine life: Commonly seen: lingcod, rockfish, sculpin, gunnel, nudibranch, urchin, and shrimp.

⚠️ Safety & accuracy

Before diving at Reuben Tarte County Park, always check the site-specific wind/wave forecast, tide/currents, and recent reports (latest: May 2, 2023)! Reminder: Winds (even offshore winds) can impact slack time.

Briefings may be out of date or have inaccuracies. Dive within your training and experience. The first time diving a site, join someone familiar with the site and/or start on a mild day.

See our currents, tides, wind, and waves guide for help reading charts and planning current-sensitive dives.

The nearest NOAA or XTide current and tide stations within 25 miles are selected by default when available. NOAA stations show charts here; XTide stations link to Dairiki. Click a pin on the map below to choose another station for current, tide, camera, or buoy data (you may need to zoom in or out).

See an issue? Would you suggest a different default station or depth? Suggest briefing updates.
