Nice visibility. We could see the eelgrass at the edge of the slope from the surface at the start. A few pink tritonias, one bay pipefish.

Fantastic viz allowed us to see all the junk we’d been missing above and below the line. First time seeing a skate (long nose skate?). It was a juvenile, the size of one of the average sole you see down there. Also a new-to-me Nudibranch that appears to be acanthadoris brunnea
Surprised to hit a sudden surge of current at 6:15, which should be exact slack before ebb according to the buoy. Still learning my way around the tides, so I guess we should’ve anticipated it on this massive exchange 🙂

Cool to hear about the skate! The buoys are never perfect, worse if there's wind. And at extreme highs or lows there could be bursts of current (redondo river like current, flooding or escaping of water onto a plane) not typically observed, or even ever modelled on the current stations. Best as always to compensate for the unexpected.
