Common questions
Where do Eastside divers dive?
The closest salt-water shore dives include Seacrest Cove 2 and Alki Junkyard in West Seattle, plus Edmonds Underwater Park and Mukilteo T Dock to the north. On each dive site page, you can use "Directions/Ferry" to get commute times and driving directions from your location. Aren't Northwest waters too cold?
Puget Sound stays in the high 40s to low 50s Β°F year-round. Local dive shops can set you up with proper equipment for staying warm. Most local divers wear drysuits. Where do I get air or nitrox fills near Bellevue?
Several dive shops serve the Eastside and greater Seattle area. See the dive shops section on this page for the current list β hours vary by shop, so check before driving out. Is Lake Washington good for scuba diving?
Lake Washington is the closest water for many Eastside communities, but it does not offer the beauty or marine-life density of Puget Sound. It can be cold at depth, is prone to silt-outs, and many of the most desirable sites require technical training. Most Eastside divers head to salt water for octopus, rockfish, and similar marine life. Freshwater diving here is mainly for wrecks and specialty interest β see Washington lakes and rivers, including the PBM Mariner.
Dive Clubs
Dive clubs are a great way to get to know the area. Many dive shops offer group outings or charter trips (see our shop listings). There are also various diving meetups you can join. Some focus on specialties like underwater photography or tech diving; others on site maintenance and conservation. If you're new to local diving, many club members are happy to meet up for a casual shore dive or help you get oriented at a siteβjust reach out and ask.
