Choosing a dive shop
Support your local dive shop!
Buying gear online might sometimes be slightly cheaper, but your local shop is worth supporting! They provide fills, instruction, gear service, and rentals. They’re your go-to when something breaks right before your dive plans or when you want to level up with a new cert. Supporting them keeps that expertise and community around.
Location and convenience
It’s often better to find a shop closer to home or on the way to or from work. That makes it easier to drop off gear for service, pick up fills, or rent equipment without a long detour. Regional hubs on this site list dive shops by area so you can see what’s near you or your destination.
Vibe, fit, and who they cater to
Most of our PNW dive shops are pretty good. Visit a few to get the vibe and see differences in equipment. Instructor fit can matter too. Shops do differ in who they cater to—some focus on tech divers, others more casual divers. Some dive shops organize charters or local shore dives, which can be helpful for truly getting started rather than just pushing thru initial certification.
