Hood Canal Scuba Diving Guide
Interested in Hood Canal scuba diving? Use this hub for visibility, tide planning, dive shops, photo galleries, and detailed site briefings before you head out.
Many Hood Canal trips center on Sund Rock near Hoodsport — a designated marine conservation area with an easy shore entry and almost guaranteed encounters with wolf eels and octopus in their dens. Octopus Hole , just north on Highway 101, is another classic Hood Canal shore dive worth adding on the same trip. Many also enjoy a charter in the area — see our charters list below.
Tidal currents are milder here than in Puget Sound, but long shore entries can be exposed at extreme low tides — check tide height before you go.

Current/Tide Stations
Most dive sites in Hood Canal are not particularly current-sensitive, but tide height matters for shore entries — extreme low tides can mean a long walk over exposed beach to reach the water. Check the chart below before heading out. Watch our currents, tides, wind, and waves guide for help reading these charts. See individual dive site pages for site-specific timing.
Charters
Charters are often best booked through your local dive shop -- they typically provide the dive master. Check with the operator for areas served.
Dive Clubs
Dive clubs are a great way to get to know the area. Many dive shops offer group outings or charter trips (see our shop listings). There are also various diving meetups you can join. Some focus on specialties like underwater photography or tech diving; others on site maintenance and conservation. If you're new to local diving, many club members are happy to meet up for a casual shore dive or help you get oriented at a site—just reach out and ask.
