pnwdivingVisibility: A hazy 10 feet, 5-10 feet in the shallows
58 degrees - Derelict Conveyor is a shore-accessible site off Gulf Rd between the two refineries in Whatcom County, characterized by an old grain-offloading structure that is crumbling into the shoreline. Kelp exists between 10-15ft below MLLW on mainly loose cobble substrate with a lot of sand intermixed and surrounding. This site is a bit unique in that eelgrass is present offshore of the kelp (usually the opposite), and in cruising the eelgrass after our (kelp) surveys I did see a fair number of opalescent nudibranchs (similar to Pt Whitehorn. Nothing really to write home about for this site but if you're in Whatcom County and really need a macro dive, this site could substitute in a pinch. Saturday we had really calm wind conditions, but last year SW wind really destroyed the visibility at this site, so I would target a calm day if attempting this site.
