An amazing dive in great vis. Did Saturday and Sunday evening on slack before flood. Bad news: there is a huge lost net 60-80ft deep covering a big area at the point and actively killing. Death count: many rockfish, greenling, crabs (including two large PS king crab), two cormorants, and a lot more. Many partially alive suffering a slow death. So terrible to see. Need a large team of divers and a boat to remove this.
The good: 3 yelloweye rockfish, a GPO, wolf eel, PS king crab, massive rockfish schools of yellowtail, black, Puget sound, stellar sea lion flyby.
How snagged? Current swept? What material and thickness? Any floats or pull lines on it? It'd be a death trap to divers and additional marine life if/when mobile by chance or during removal, as well as a hazard to boat/ship traffic

Two nets - larger one a monofilament gillnet. A real hazard and deadly. Another one is black rope-like material that is smothering some reef but not actively killing like the other. Wrapped on itself and mostly stuck to the wall except on the edges. A high current area directly at the tip of Eagle Point.
Wish there was more I could do. Will also try a phone call to the report line tomorrow.
The natural resource consultants were responsive and called me today. They removed nets from Eagle Point last year so these are fresh within last 6 months. They may be able to get it off in the next few weeks. Very glad they have the resources to clean up things like this.
Great dive. 3 decorated warbonnets. 5 baby yellow eye rockfish and 1 adult down deep. A large derelict net at 120ft that has been there a while and is fully wrapped up on the rocks. Schools of Puget sound and yellowtail rockfish. Wolf eel in the open. Two San Diego dorids. No current with 4pm splash.
