Green Point

Dive report for 8/4/23
Profile Pic
Green PointStrait of Juan de Fuca

Visibility: A silty 15 feet, 10-15 feet in the shallows (incoming tide)

Reef Check surveys at Green Point - this was another site (like the Miller peninsula area) we did from boat, co-locating survey sites with our partners. This kelp forest is mostly partially-buried boulder reef but with sections of exposed hardpan. Not sure if I'd choose this site if I had a boat and the ability to go anywhere, but providing this update for a conditions report for the weekend. On Friday, we had morning breeze providing some wind-chop, and while the overall visibility was good, the wind effects stirring up sand were pretty apparent. Current also picked up quickly, and while I didn't dive on 8/5 they had workable visibility conditions before being blown off the water. The coming days aren't the 18-20kt breeze in the afternoons anymore, but I'm not sure that vis conditions will improve much until we get a break in the wind. However, looks like long period swell isn't coming straight down the strait (pun intended), and the wind could continue transporting clean, cold (we had 49 at Green Point) water inwards, potentially setting up the next wind lull for good conditions!
