Kellett Bluff (Outside Kelp Eddy) is a west-facing boat dive in the San Juan Islands. Two pnwdiving reports in 2023 and 2024 recorded 25–35 ft of visibility. For the site briefing, see dive planning for Kellett Bluff (Outside Kelp Eddy).

Recent Visibility Reports
Dive report for 12/30/24
- Visibility
- A silty 30+ feet, 40+ feet in the shallows (high tide)
Phenomenal wall dive at the South tip of Henry Island
Wall is virtually bottomless with 700ft at the sonar only 30ft from the bluff
Beautiful wall covered in life
The entry point , as per the book "diving San Juans" is located just below the white sign saying "rockfish preserve" . Easy to find ! NOAA has a current station called "Kellet Bluff" and is very accurate on current predictions
Yeah not sure but the drop I added here previously “Outside Kelp Eddy” might be a bit north from where you entered and refer to, as we chose that to be more conservative on that particular day. If you can indicate your approximate GPS coords for entry that would be helpful, in case it means that we can add additional drop points for reference
OK so it would be something like :
48°35'13.9"N 123°12'02.9"W
When approaching the south tip of Henry from Roche Harbor (east), one would follow the coast of Henry heading North/Northwest and drop divers immediately at the first white sign on the top of the cliff. The sign is a black&white panel with a white light flashing every 10 sec
It is relatively easy to find
For current, again, I recommend the NOAA station called "Kellet Bluff"
Dive report for 8/10/23
- Visibility
- 20+ feet, 15 feet in the shallows (high tide)
Having a little look at the big stuff on a mild day 😮🛐

Imagine this as a busy mecca dive site, in countries with different philosophies about risk & liability.. Note: the current site pin ('outside kelp eddy') is a distinctly different (and more conservative?) location from the proper cliff head where you likely dived. Would you mind sharing your approx lon/lat position where you entered?
