Reef Check surveys at Pt. Whitehorn (Cherry Point). This site is accessed by kayak at the Birch Bay State Park boat ramp, paddling the mile or so to the boulder field at the south point of Birch Bay. This site is mostly boulder-strewn but with decent kelp coverage providing habitat for a fair amount of fish and invertebrates - but I was actually struck by the amount of nudibranchs on the sugar kelp understory. It would be a bit of work to lug camera gear by kayak to this site and if one had a powerboat it would make sense to head to the northeastern San Juans - but we survey kelp where it exists! Notably, the Fraser's effect on summer temps in the southern Strait of Georgia was apparent, 57 degrees at 20ft.
