1st dive 1010, 2nd dive 1230, no current, 48F vis: hazy 5 ft in the shallows, gradually opens up to 15ft-20ft below 60ft No crowds today. At the deep wall there was a red brotula hiding in the rocks, several large frosted nudi, a grunt sculpin, and rock fish. In the shallows saw an octo and a young adult wolf eel swimming around. At the south wall we saw a giant nudi, dog fish, several lingcod, more curious rock fish, and a toad fish.

Phenomenal dive along the south wall. Couldn't see much above 30ft but below that (and below the thermocline) plenty of viz. Gentle flooding current carried us past the wall at 40-60 ft and it was easy to swim home against it at about 30 ft. Saw FIVE GPOs hanging out in their various crevices, seven wolf eels poking their heads out, a school of maybe 30 rockfish (including a dozen juveniles) and a yellow nudibranch so big my buddy though it was a sponge at first!

Great stuff at depth, some of the best Iโ€™ve seen in recent memory for vis. Lots of leatherbacks, some massive starfish besides (a few feet from foot to foot tip) Several GPOs and schools do large rockfish, sunflower stars, nudis (dorids 3-6โ€ max) ling cod of decent stature, and some fun greenlings. Folks reported a 6 gill about 4m long - buggers avoid me still but worth noting!!

The top 30 feet are very opaque and brownish, opening up pretty nicely to clear water at depth. There is clearly a Low Oxygen condition right now at the many wolfeels were often hanging out of their dens, torpid and breathing hard. A little sad. Otherwise a great set of dives with Wolfies, GPO's, giant squat lobsters (3-5 inches), and many Rockfish. Also, I saw 4 or 5 sunflower stars, including one very healthy one that was probably 20 inches in diameter. Compared against my 16-inch strobe arm.

Vis stayed bad all day long in the top 30fsw or so, but at times was 15-20 ft below that, with some cloudier and clearer sections. Watch read 11C at depth, and reads ~14C at depth around alki these days, so colder! Over 3 dives, saw at least a dozen sunflower stars, none wasting! 3 GPOS (one red too!), the gamut of wolf eels from battle-scarred, geriatric eels to one small orange juvenile, decorated warbonnet, a spiny lithoid crab, tons of yellow and white dorids (I've given up IDing white dorids) bethellas, one giant dendronotid.

Excellent dives at Sund Rock today, despite multiple camera issues and a failed neck seal! Vis started out fabulous in the morning, both shallow and at depth, and got hazier and hazier throughout the day (I'd have put it at ~10 ft at depth by 3pm). Dendronotus iris still hanging out below the south wall, still blows me away. Also saw a dendronotus rufus, many yellow-margin cadlinas, nanaimo dorids, sandalwood dorids. Three GPOs seen. One rose star. One grunt sculpin. Lots of beautiful wolf eels. Big schools of rockfish on the edge of the fishbowl.

Lots of animals outside of their hiding places, clearly there's a low-oxygen event going on. Lots of Wolf Eels, GPOs out and gasping... even the sea cucumbers were stressed. Quite a few Red Dendronotus nudibranchs, and more than a few medium-sized sunflower sea stars. Fish were gathered together in large schools in the shallows.

My two favorite dives of the year today! I feel so lucky to live half an hour from this site. There were two octopus in the open (I'm sure there were more if I had time to look), dozens of wolf eels in the open, hundreds of rockfish, thousands of shinerperch, large clown dorids, a giant dendronotus. It's clear there's a low O2 event, but the life seems a little less lethargic than previous years and the water is cooling down to 50F

nice visibility all the way down. Dropped in from the north wall entrance- but not at the bouy. swam out towards the deep to find three small walls of 15-20 feet of relief with the deepest one being 130-145' of depth. Visibility stayed nice throughout the water column. Low disolved oxygen event is very much affecting the marine life with the giant sea cucumbers having their white gills out. We found a handful of clutches of stubby squid eggs as well as a handful of skate eggs- I think these were all deeper than 90'. On the second dive, we found probably 15 wolf eels between 70-20' of depth. We had 2 sunflower stars per dive as well.

Two beautiful dives at Sund rock. the low 02 event is improving slightly. There are less wolf eels out, the octopus are back under their dens, and the sea cucumbers are starting to retract back to their normal state. Huge schools of baitfish and rockfish were swirling around the site. Dived with Milada, Bill, and Hilary!

I dove with mz53480 and visited the North Wall and Wreck. Visibility below 10fsw was very good (25ft). The crown of the North Wall aka Fish Bowl lived up to its name. It was alive with creatures, numerous schools of fish often too many to count. It was like a photo out of National Geographic. We also saw a very large GPO and the usual assortment of Wolf Eels. The Wreck has continued to deteriorate, but the hull remains. The very large Ling Cod (at least five) continue to stay in the area along with some very large rockfish. The sun came out and penetrated down to 45fsw making the dive even more enjoyable. Winter visibility is back. Now is the time to get in the water.

Wolf eels, lingcod, painted greenling, nudiโ€™s, so many. South wall vis was a little disappointing. But, did find a huge nudibranch, yet to be identified. At least 6 baby seastars.

Cold and blurry in the fresh water layer at the surface - 47 degrees - Brrr. Mucky viz in the shallows, including Fish Bowl. Cleared up nicely at 40 feet and below. The wreck at the north buoy was clear and full of big Ling cod, some huge Black and Copper rockfish, and Painted greenling. We spotted a big Wolf eel on the north wall, along with a Sea lemon, Moon snail and several flounder. Others who went to the south wall saw at least 3 GPOs and 8 wolf eels. Considering the poor viz in the rest of the Sound, this was a good, if chilly dive.

Did both walls, and a trip to the wreck. tons of rockfish, found a nudi or two swimming across from the wall to the wreck. Vis in the fish bowl was better than expected. Dive buddy Mike spotted a baby sea star. The top few feet of water was interesting as the freshwater and salt water mixing gave a very hazy view. Southwall was a shorter dive, mostly around the 50-30 feet. Vis the same. Overall two great dives.
