This is Fritz. We dove the north side of Third Beach on the evening of 8/12, Waddah on 8/13, the stern section of the Andalusa off sail/seal rock on the afternoon of 8/13, the stern section on 8/14, box canyon on 8/15. Buddies did the swim through at slant reck on 8/15. Vis at 3rd beach on the first evening (8/12) was better than it looked at first. 10-15' a little hazy but ok. Lots of diversity in the rock fish life - china, quill, blacks blues, tigers and more. Kelp came up just as we got to the site so we didn't have to wait for the current to calm down. Conflicting current predictions that often differ for some reason from on site conditions here make it difficult to predict when to dive it. Kelp heads up are the key. Dove Waddah fingers near the raceway the next morning (8/13). Really nice and amazingly calm with 15-20 ft (maybe more deep) pretty clear vis once you got down to the ridge (murky on top down to around 35'-40'). Didn't really have to fight much current. Lots of invert life, lots of diverse and plentiful rock fish life (but not as much as the finger extending out from Sail Rock). Wonderful rock ridge that is undercut with lots of fish and invert life on and under the ridge. Dove the stern section of the Andalusia on afternoon of 8/13. After pulling down the drop line in strong current we got below the ridge edge. Vis was pretty good 10-20 depending on where you were at. Some canary, china, young of the year, yellowtail, black and other rock fish. Decent life on the wreck. buddy's dove the bow section the next morning (8/14) less structure and shallower so they reported vis wasn't as good as on the stern section - 10-15. Two grey whales were feeding back and forth pretty much right above them during their entire dive so we had enjoyable boat time watching them. We dove another point further out on the reef extending out from sail rock - amazing amounts of fish life. Probably thousands of black and blue Rockfish, lots of china, tiger and yellow tail mixed in with them the entire dive. Big ling cod out swimming among them with a few rock greenling. Less invert life on the rocks here but so much fish life it was remarkable. Caught a strong drift North side of the finger (current was flooding if I remember right and hit the cross channel finger pushing us out north - much further than we wanted). Dove box canyon the last day 8/15 - good structure and some kelp but lots and lots of urchins. Buddies dove slant rock from the outside and went through the swim through. Reported a very nice dive - lots of kelp inside the ridge in the cove. Current was unusually manageable (low current changes per NOAA for the days we chose and low exchanges). Vis sounded similar per their reports.
