Dive report for 6/9/25

Visibility
<5 feet (high tide)

Viz was TERRIBLE today, even for Marine Park. Coulda been an orca 10' away and I never would have known. I turned early just 'cause I couldn't see squat. Lots of coonstripe shrimp out on the pipe. I saw a saddleback gunnel near the piling. Highlight of the dive was a couple of hooded nudibranchs in the eelgrass during the safety stop. Eight species reported to REEF on my survey.

Dive report for 7/30/25

Viz was so poor I cut the dive short and didn't do a second. I was able to make out a few shiner perch, tubesnouts, snake pricklebacks, and a speckled sanddab. Highlight of the dive was a saddleback gunnel perched on one of the concrete pipe supports. I saw both mottled and ochre sea stars affected by SSWD today. :(

Dive report for 1/14/26

Visibility
5 feet, <5 feet in the shallows (high tide)

Couldn't even read my gauges in the first 5': still a lot of runoff from the recent rains. Viz opened up to 5' below that. I went out the big pipe and back. Highlights of the dive were a few white-lined dironas, one yellow-margin dorid, 8 bay pipefishes, and a metric ton of dock shrimp all over the concrete pipe supports. I reported 13 species on my REEF survey.

Unusually good viz today: no recent rain. I saw at least a dozen bay pipefish over the course of two dives. Highlight of the dives was a GPO underneath the big pipe at 37'. I haven't seen one in the park in months. There were also several white-lined dironas, a pygmy poacher, and a sturgeon poacher. I reported 19 species on my REEF survey from the second dive!
