Mushroom Rock Dive Planning

Mushroom Rock is a dive site near Neah Bay . A mushroom-shaped rock south of Cape Flattery marks the site; most divers work west of the rock along walls and channels from 50 to 80 ft.

Compared with many Neah Bay sites, Mushroom Rock can be a bit easier. Sightings can include red gorgonian corals, lightbulb ascidians, and king crabs on the structure. Rock channels cut through the reef west of the point, and many dives end in a sheltered kelp bay.

Access: Boat from Neah Bay marina, about 6 miles; a live boat is standard in this area.

Marine life: Schooling black and vermilion rockfish are common. Sturgeon have been seen cruising the flat substrate east of the rock. Gooseneck barnacles in the shallows.

Conditions: Most divers limit visits to summer minor exchanges.

Hazards: Swell and fog can be severe here. Be careful!
